Dr. Finney is a professor emeritus at California State University Long Beach. |

He maintains active affiliation with the Broadcast Education Association, where he served on the board of directors. He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Association for Communication Administration, the American Federation of Musicians, and the Broadcasters Foundation of America. He is a lifetime member of the Naval Reserve Association and the National Eagle Scout Association. He also serves his community as the commissioner and chairman of the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission in Long Beach. |

He has over 30 years of professional experience. He was a commissioned officer in the US Navy and Naval Reserve from 1957-1988, retiring as a captain. He taught classes in Journalism, Speech-Theater, Film and Electronic Arts, and Speech Communications at various colleges throughout the 1970’s. Mr. Finney worked as Human Resources Administrator of the Radio Corporation of America until 1964. Furthermore, he has been a Producer-Consultant to media corporations, radio and television stations, government institutions, medical centers, and more. He secured over $1 million in grants, and produced over 100 radio programs and television programs. He specializes in fundraising and proposal writing.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Marietta College in 1956, and earned a Master of Arts in 1957 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1971 from the Ohio State University. He graduated from a Post-Doctoral Seminar in East Asian Studies at the University of Southern California in 1980. He attended the Fund-Raising School at Indiana University in 1983. |

He is a professor emeritus at California State University Long Beach. He held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, James Madison University, Memphis State University, the Ohio State University, and the University of Cincinnati. He was the dean of the Department of Mass Communications at Shaw University. He is also a retired Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve. |

He is a lifetime member of the Navy League of the United States Navy. He was featured in Marquis Who’s Who in America for his lifetime achievement in Education and Entertainment in 2020. |
