He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and maintains active affiliation with the American Association of Surgical Trauma, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He also devotes his time as a volunteer wrestling coach at West Mount High School, and junior high, as well as participates in community charities through the hospital, such as the food pantry and back the pack program.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at West Virginia University. His Medical Degree was earned at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He then served 15 years in the USAF Medical Corps ending his career with the USAF Medical Corp at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He completed a General surgical residency at Wright-Patterson AFB (combined program with Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio). And completed a Fellowship in trauma and critical care surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

In his free time he enjoys scuba diving, wrestling, and practicing martial arts.
