He become a registered engineer in the states of Michigan, Illinois, California, Florida and Missouri. He maintains active affiliation with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transport Engineers, the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, and the Transportation Research Board. He is also the Chairman of the Triangle Building and Housing Corporation. |

He earned an AB and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1967. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan and received his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1968. |

While attending the University of Michigan he took a traffic engineering course by Professor Donald Cleveland. This professor inspired him to pursue engineering for his graduate studies and he spent the next five decades working to make roads operate in a safer and smoother manner. Prior to his current position he worked as transportation department head of Hubbell, Roth & Clark, as the director of transportation for the City of Troy, MI, as the transportation and right of way department head of the City of Troy MI, as a chief engineer with Reid, Cool & Michalski, Inc. and as a highway engineer for the Federal Highway Administration. He is particularly proud being instrumental in implementing an adaptive control technique for the traffic control system in Detroit, Michigan-the application, Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) originated in Australia. He also directed a project to design and build intelligent transportation systems for Detroit freeways. |
