Over 50 years of experience. Professor Jacob began his career in 1960 as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of Florida. He has been a professor at Emory University School of Lae (1965-1969) and the Ohio State University College of Law (1971-78). He has also been the Dean of two law schools, for a total of 16 1/2 years - Mercer University Law School from 1978-1981 and Stetson University College of Law from 1981-1994. |

Published law review articles on the subjects of criminal law and procedure, civil rights and liberties, the administrative law of corrections, and the right to counsel, in the Stetson Law Review, Iowa Law Review, Kansas Law Review, Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, and others. |

Mr. Jacob argued two cases before the US Supreme Court: Gideon v Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335 (1963) and Kaufman v United States, 394 U.S. 217 (1969) |

In 2013, The Constitution Project, Washington, DC, gave four “Constitutional Champion” awards and Mr. Jacob received one of them. Also, in 2013 the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded him the “Champion of Indigent Defense Award” for that year. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Stetson University in 2006 and 2018, and the "Golden Apple Award" from Stetson law students in 1999 for excellence in teaching. He is a charter inductee into the Stetson University College of Law Hall of Fame, 2004. In 2006 the members of an American Inn of Court in Tampa honored Professor Jacob by naming their Inn the "Bruce R. Jacob Criminal Appellate American Inn of Court." It is now (as of 2016) the Bruce R. Jacob - Chris W. Altenbermd Criminal Appellate American Inn of Court. Professor Jacob was honored by the Stetson faculty when in 2009 Stetson began hiring entry level Visiting Assistant Professors who are known as "Bruce R. Jacob Fellows." |
